Trump Considers Further Tariff Reductions on China Amid Trade Truce
President TRUMP signaled a potential 10% reduction in China's tariff rates contingent on Beijing's efforts to curb fentanyl exports. The announcement follows a one-year trade truce between the U.S. and China, which already halved fentanyl tariffs to 10% and lowered China's overall rate to 47%.
The agreement includes Chinese commitments to increase purchases of U.S. agricultural and energy products while refraining from rare earth export restrictions. In return, the U.S. suspended threatened tariff escalations and port fees on Chinese vessels.
